In 1946 TIME magazine published an article about Portugal. In it, the country was described as “a melancholy land of impoverished, confused and frightened people”. And Salazar was depicted as a living example of Lord Acton’s law of politics: “Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely.” In the magazine’s cover, a wrotten apple , next to Salazar, symbolically translated the message…
62 years later, heirs and soul mates of Salazar still find their way in the country. People are not so frightened anymore but, “behind this glossy exterior of success, decay eats away at Portugal”… still.
“A História é cíclica.”…e a humanidade já cá anda há tempo suficiente para antecipar perante um determinado quadro, o efeito a curto, médio ou longo prazo que irá inexoravelmente revelar-se, mediante a coexistência de certos factores. Por isso amigo, a nossa nação vai a tempo de uma genuflexão contrita num “mea culpa” de mão ao peito, que permita de uma vez por todas ao Português considerar-se merecedor do “Ipiranga” libertador do jugo judaico- Cristão.
A questão a colocar é: estamos “nós” em condições de nos libertarmos da figura do “pai”, estado tutelar, dirigente disciplinador com inevitáveis tiques autoritários?
